It has been reported that Yahoo has begun negotiations to purchase photo-sharing site Imgur. Considering the amount of purchases CEO Marissa Mayer has been making this year, this comes as no surprise - Yahoo only recently bought Tumblr for $1.1 billion. The reasons why Mayer would choose Imgur are very similar to those she had for Tumblr - Imgur has a young audience who use it on a regular basis, and often over mobile devices. There is no figure associated with the purchase yet, but Imgur is unlikely to go for a cheap price. Originally built for Reddit, Imgur has actually grown larger than its mother website, having crossed the 100 million user mark in September. Neither Yahoo nor Imgur founder Alan Schaaf have commented on the rumored sale, though it is unlikely that the latter will hold out on such a potentially massive acquisition.
