Movement-based technology has been available for general use for quite some time thanks to entertainment systems like the Kinect, but so far the technology has had very few practical applications. All that might be about to change thanks to a new app that will allow you to control your smartphone with facial movements.
Developed by an Israel-based company called Umoove, the eponymous app currently comes in the form of a game which can be controlled by face-tracking, but future developments could promise a wider range of applications. The game is free and available in iOS, with an Android version on the way too, and serves as an excellent demonstration of the technology.
When you open up the app, you’ll need to take a couple of moments to calibrate it to your movements, but once that’s done you’re free to send your avatar zooming around collecting points with just a nod of your head. You might want to resist playing it during a crowded commute, but otherwise the game is entertaining.
