In a video released in the beginning of October, the video-sharing giant announced that the first ever YouTube awards would be taking place the following month. Host-to-be Jason Schwartzman starred in the video, which revealed that the event would be aired live from New York City. The awards will feature live performances from London, Seoul, Moscow and Rio de Janeiro, where artists will be creating music videos in real-time.

Nominees will be announced on 17 October, and it will be up to fans to vote for their favorite artists. The nominees will consist of artists and videos that have drawn the most attention over the past year – based on how often they’ve been watched, shared and liked.
