Sources from within Samsung have revealed that the company responsible for the popular Galaxy phone series is gearing up to debut a smartwatch on September 4th. The wearable technology will be called Galaxy Gear and will perform all the basic tasks expected of a smartphone: phone calls, email, and surfing the web.
Smartwatches have been a popular fixture in pop culture and science fiction for some time, but only recent advances have made Galaxy Gear a possibility. Samsung are not alone in their quest for wearable technology though, with technology giants Microsoft and Apple both rumoured to be producing their own smartwatches. Currently though, smartwatch technology seem to be limited to serving as satellite devices for smartphones. If Samsung can break this trend, they could see the Galaxy Gear tear ahead of the competition upon its release.
Wearable technology is definitely the technology trend to watch, with Acer having announced their development of an unspecified device and Google still working out the kinks from their already-famous Google Glass technology.
