Samsung Inexplicably Dubs New Product "Fonblet"

What do you call a device which is too big to be a conventional phone, but smaller than other tablets? If you answered “phablet”, then most of the tech world would agree with you, except for Samsung, who have decided that their latest device is special enough to receive a name of its own.

Meet the Fonblet! The name doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, but with updated specs and design features, Samsung are certainly hoping that they roll off the shelves. The new phone was revealed during the company’s analyst day in Seoul, South Korea, as Samsung attempts to reassure investors that innovation and growth are right around the corner.

Although Sasmsung has had success in the smartphone market recently, particularly with the Galaxy series, the South Korean company is not generally viewed as an innovator within the technology community. The somewhat poor reception of smarthwatch Galaxy Gear definitely did not help to change that particular perception either. Aside from having all the usual capabilities of a combined tablet and phone, the fonblet will also feature handwriting recognition technology, which is reportedly what the tech firm hope will make it stand out from the crowd.

Aside from the fabled fonblet, Samsung has also been keen to discuss its plans to bump screen resolutions up to Ultra HD (3840 X 2106) by sometime in 2015, as well as their plans to rework their existing software. Hopefully they won’t try and rename anything else in the process.
