In the age of the internet, where everything is available at the click of a button, our children are given a unique opportunity to learn so much more than ever, but the vastness of the internet can be a double-edged sword. We all want to keep our children safe on the internet, which is why a tool like Windows Family Safety is so useful these days.
If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will need to download and install Family Safety for free as an application as part of the Windows Essentials software package. To enable Parental Controls, or adjust the settings, you will first need to click Start, and then type “parental control” into the search bar. Once in the Parental Controls window, you will have the option to activate controls on multiple user accounts.
If you are running Windows 8, however, the Parental Controls features are built into the software, grouped under the name Family Safety. To activate, find search for Family Safety in the Start bar search, and once the Family Safety window has opened, simply select Settings, followed by Family Safety.
When Parental Controls are running on an account, you will be able to enforce safe-searching filter options on search engines, as well as block downloads.
