New reports have started leaking in that Facebook-owned photo app Instagram is set to start delving into the world of instant messaging.
Leading technology site GigaOm reported late in November that Instagram may be preparing to launch a private messaging feature built into their application- or at least that’s the story according to their anonymous source. According to this mysterious tell-tale, the new feature is set to pop up in updated versions of Instagram by the end of this year. With the end of 2013 only around the corner, that means that Instagram fans should get ready to start messaging within the next few weeks.
Busy as social media sites always are, the holiday period often sees an even greater increase of posts, which makes this rollout very well timed for Instagram indeed. Add to this the fact that Instagram has recently become one of the most important social media apps for teenagers, and the timing seems too good to be true.
A further revelation from an anonymous source, this time on Techcruch.com also revealed that certain users have already been given Instagram.com email addresses, though there is no information yet about what plans are behind them. Given that Facebook has recently begun offering its own email addresses as part of is in-site service, the move is not entirely surprising.
