Global Facebook outage reported this past weekend

Facebook users worldwide this weekend reported that the website was suffering from an error that was rendering their newsfeeds empty. While access to the website had not been blocked, users were faced with placeholder images where updates normally are. This was not limited to the desktop version only, as mobile users reported that 'No content in this feed' messages were being displayed whenever they used the app.

While some users didn't have to wait very long for a fix, other users were reporting the same outage up to hours after. The problem seems to be fixed for now, but this follows a couple of major outages for Facebook-owned WhatsApp over the past few weeks. Should we expect a few more?
