Facebook is set to update its News Feed algorithm to favor more relevant content. Mobile news feed in particular will manage to source articles of a “higher quality” once the new algorithm is rolled out, with more focus on newsworthy items rather than meme photos and overshared links.

While Facebook won’t entirely purge news feeds of lower-quality links, they will be significantly less prominent. This is a big step in the social media giant’s attempt to match Twitter in the realm of breaking news, where the latter is currently reigning as the prime source for readers.
