Buy a Starbucks coffee for your friend via Twitter

Want to treat a loved one but can’t get away from the office? Starbucks and Twitter are planning to help you with that. A beta program set to be launched will let you buy a $5 gift card for a friend through the social network. Called Tweet-a-Coffee, the program is initiated when you add a credit card to your Starbucks account and link it to Twitter. After that, all you need to do is tweet “@tweetacoffee” with the Twitter handle of the intended recipient and that person will receive your gift card. To entice users, Starbucks will offer the first 100,000 Visa card holders using the program $5 gift cards of their own.

Having launched a similar program on Facebook in 2011 and gained a lot of success, Starbucks is hoping to see a boost in its number of followers (currently at 5 million) on Twitter. With more and more users flocking to Twitter, this is definitely the right move for the coffee giant.
