British PM David Cameron joins Chinese Twitter alternative

British Prime Minister David Cameron joined Sina Weibo in late November ahead of a historically significant trip to China. The news marks a diplomatic attempt to reduce any offence caused when Cameron paid a visit to the Dalai Lama in 2012, as well as pave the way to “the largest British trade mission to ever go to China.” With business between the two countries blossoming, what may seem like a trivial PR-influenced decision is a shrewd move to appeal to the increasingly social-media obsessed country, with the news quickly becoming a trending topic among users of the micro-blogging website.
