If the media circus surrounding Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto is to be believed, the 64-year-old California resident may be the mastermind behind cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Despite a cover story by Newsweek and a full-blown frenzy from local media outlets, Mr Nakamoto vehemently denies having any involvement with Bitcoin at all.
Despite reportedly being followed by a barrage of Los Angeles journalists and hounded for information, Mr Nakamoto claims that he hadn’t even heard of Bitcoin up until 3 weeks ago. Earlier this week, Newsweek reporter Leah McGrath Goodman announced that months of searching for Bitcoin’s reclusive creator had led her to the quiet father of six.
In her initial report, Goodman stated that Nakamoto had called the police upon hearing her knocking on his door, though he allegedly told her later than he was “no longer involved” in Bitcoin. However, following the storm of media attention which inevitably erupted following Newsweek’s report, Nakamoto told reporters from the Associated Press that he had never heard of Bitcoin before Goodman contacted him.
Whether Goodman has been barking up the wrong tree or not, Nakamoto has found himself propelled to instant fame by news outlets around the planet.
