Apple users duped into believing iOS 7 makes iPhones waterproof

A hoax advert claiming that iOS 7 makes the iPhone waterproof has duped iPhone users into destroying their phones. Controversial internet forum 4chan is believed to be behind the fake advert, which has caused an outcry from the more gullible of iPhone users. "In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone's power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone's delicate circuitry," the advert claimed, before adding that “waterproofing [is] covered by Apple’s warranty policy”.

It wasn’t long before angry Apple users took to social media to respond, in a mass fit of much wailing and gnashing of teeth. One user who fell for the prank, tweeted "Whoever said iOS 7 is Waterproof your phone.... F*** You" whilst another user simply tweeted "Anyone have a iPhone for sale? Someone told me iOS7 was waterproof and obviously mine wasn't...."

This isn't the first victory for 4chan, who were behind the #BaldforBieber hoax that caused Justin Bieber fans to shave their heads in support of a fake claim that the popstar had cancer. In another iPhone-related prank, a 4chan hoax ad had duped iPhone users into microwaving their phones by claiming that they would charge in under a minute.
