People are always slow to accept change, even in the world of technology, but some products gain popularity quicker than others. On Wednesday, a Google executive claimed that the company’s Android operating system has been the fastest and most successful adoption in the history of operating systems.
Nikesh Arora, a senior VP at Google, was speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecome conference this week when he made his lofty claim. “In the history of operating systems, I think Android has been the quickest and most successful adoption of an operating system in the world,” said Mr Arora, though he failed to back his statement up.
Both Android and iOS have experienced incredibly high adoption rates since their respective releases, with one 2012 report claiming that they both grew at a rate 10 times faster than PCs experienced in the 1980s. While data from the IDC in December 2013 showed that Android smartphones had a high lead over Apple, statistics also show that iOS upgrades are adopted faster than new Android releases.
