Amazon set to start delivering via drone

In what sounds like a plot detail from the Back to the Future trilogy, internet giant Amazon has announced its intention to start a new delivery service…via drone. Prime Air will use unmanned aerial vehicles to ensure direct-to-doorstep deliveries thirty minutes after ordering. According to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the drones Amazon is currently testing have a range of 10 miles and can handle products under five pounds, which covers nearly 90% of the items available on Amazon.

Bexos explains that there’s a while left to go, maybe by 2015 at least, as the internet retailer is still waiting for FAA approval. Bezos pointed out that Amazon’s prime concern is public safety, and underlined that “this thing can’t land on somebody’s head while they’re walking around their neighborhood.”
