Microsoft extends Windows 8.1 update deadline

Microsoft is offering Windows 8.1 users an extra month to keep receiving security updates, with the Update Requirement having been moved from May 12 to June 10. Both days are a week before Patch Tuesday of either month. Microsoft noted that a number of users have not manually upgraded to Windows 8.1 yet, and that only those with Automatic Update enabled had received the update in the first place. Facebook opening office in China despite ban

Facebook appears to be taking its China ban in its stride. According to reports, the company is planning on opening a sales office in Beijing, and is already in negotiations about property. This comes fresh off Facebook VP Vaughan Smith's proclamation that Facebook has a "rapidly growing" business in China, and that opening a sales office there would be the obvious way forward for the company. This comes in spite of the ban on the social network in the country, which Smith addressed by noting the "thousands of developers" using Facebook to reach customers overseas.
