evp.exe process belongs to Kaspersky Anti-virus which is a security product which detects, quarantines and removes threats, viruses or spyware. This process runs continuously in the background searching for virus definition updates which improve their anti-virus database. The process should not be intensive on the computer and it is recommended to leave it active to protect your computer from any threats on the system. The executable (exe) is generally found under the directory C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\
Non-system processes like avp.exe originate from software you installed on your system. Since most applications store data on your hard disk and in your system's registry, it is likely that your computer has suffered fragmentation and accumulated invalid entries which can affect your PC's performance.

In Windows Task Manager, you can see what CPU, memory, disk and network utilization is causing the Kaspersky AntiVirus Module process. To access the Task Manager, hold down the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys at the same time. These three buttons are located on the far left of your keyboard.

This process is considered safe. It is unlikely to pose any harm to your system. The avp.exe file should be located in the folder C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus or C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-virus 6.0. Otherwise it could be a Trojan.
